Drug Name: Chitosan
Drug Uses: Chitosan absorbs fat from food and reduces body fat.
How Taken: Take 1 to 3 capsules for each fat rich meal.
Drug Class and Mechanism: Chitosan is a fiber-based fat blocker that comes from the shells of shellfish. Chitosan is a positively charged compound so it is able to attract and bind to fatty acids (which carry a negative charge). As such, Chitosan can absorb up to 4-6 times its weight in fat (including cholesterol) and inhibit that fat from being absorbed into the body.
Missed Dose: If you miss a dose of this medicine and you are using it regularly, take it as soon as possible. If you do not remember until later, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.
Storage: Store at the room temperature away from moisture and sunlight. Keep out of the reach of children.
Warnings/Precautions: A high quality essential fatty acid supplement such as flax seed oil, along with ample supplemental fat soluble nutrients vitamins A, D, E, and K should be taken at a meal apart from Chitosan supplementation. Avoid this product if you are allergic to shellfish, pregnant or lactating. Not recommended for children or teenagers
Possible Side Effects: Those allergic to shellfish also may experience allergies to Chitosan products.
